In Memory of Captain William Alan Stanley February 18, 1932 - July 11, 2007 Born in Campbell River, British Columbia, Al was a man of the sea whose career began on his father’s fishing boat. He soon graduated to Skipper on several tugs, and his career culminated as a B.C. Coastal Pilot, retiring in 1997 after 30 years of service. He was a man so well loved and respected, known up and down the coast as a person all could rely on. Al treasured his friends, too many to name, loved all his siblings, and is survived by Norm, Rick, Gordie, Mina and Flo, his two daughters, Alana and Dorothy Ann, and 3 grandchildren, Alisha, Kaitlin and Erica, but his heart belonged to Dawn, his wife of 52 years. The family wishes to thank the amazing staff at the Palliative Care Ward of Lions Gate Hospital, and particularly thank Dr. McLeod and Dr. Hayward for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, Al had requested that we give blood to the B.C. Blood Services and / or a donation to the Palliative ward at Lions Gate Hospital either on line at www.lghfoundation.com or by mail to 231 East 15th Ave., North Vancouver, BC, V7L 2L7. A Blood donor clinic is scheduled at St. Andrews United Church, 1044 St. Georges Ave. on July 28, 10:00-4:30 1-888-236-6283 is the number to call to arrange an appointment. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Mount Seymour United Church, 1200 Parkgate Ave, North Vancouver at 2:00 pm, July 18th 2007. Al piloted us all through many storms, steered us clear of rocky shores and though we can no longer touch his face, his light and love fills our hearts with grace.
