BARRY, Captain RoyAugust 13, 1924 - February 5, 2010 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved father. Roy was born in Vancouver, BC. He came from a long line of Master Mariners and began a life at sea at the young age of 16, transporting troops to various destinations around the world. In 1971, Roy joined the Fraser River Pilots and spent the remainder of his career as a Marine Pilot, retiring in 1986. Along with Roy’s passion for the sea, he was well known for his negotiation skills and served as President of the Canadian Merchant Service Guild, the Board of Directors for the Pacific Marine Training Institute, Chairman of the National Marine Training Advisory Council, Chairman of the Fraser River Pilots Association and Vice President of the National Marine Pilots Association. As a father, grandfather and friend, Roy is remembered for his support, patience, sense of humor, and unconditional love. A loving husband, Roy was predeceased by Evelyn, his wife of 49 years, and grandson, Michael Dempsey and will be sadly missed by his children Jacquie Cattanach (Dave), Roy Barry Jr. (Chris), Diana Brinsdon and Melvin Barry, grandchildren Ryan and Celine Dempsey, Shaun and Kevin Reilly, Michael, Jonathan and Alisha Barry, and his siblings Colleen Dallin and Alan Barry.
