Jim passed away peacefully at LGH with his family by his side. Jim was born and raised in Nanaimo, BC. After obtaining his captain’s certificate, he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway, Northland, Pacific Tanker and Vancouver Tug/ Seaspan, at sea and then in the Dispatch office. Jim was a man of many talents: he loved to read, cook, build wooden toys in his workshop and stay on top of current events. In the spring and summer months, Jim spent his days in his beloved garden, growing flowers and vegetables to share with friends and family. He was a member of the Ancient Mariners’ Club and the Company of Master Mariners. Jim is survived by his wife, Diane; his daughter, Debra (Tony); his son, Dan (Mari); his four grandchildren, Cole, Matthew, Cassidy and Chase; and his cousins Pauline and Pat. Jim was a generous, kind and intelligent man who will be deeply missed. We extend our appreciation to the many doctors and nurses who cared for Jim over the past few years. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lion’s Gate Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. At Jim’s request, there will be no service at this time. Next spring, the family is planning to celebrate Jim’s life and spread his ashes at sea.
