STEWART Captain James C.F., aged 93 years, passed away in Vancouver on January 21, 2005. He is survived by his son, Robert and his wife Michael, their daughter, Meghan, her sons Osa, Raven and Cedar, and their son, Cameron, his wife Debbie and their son, Cameron-James. He is also survived by his sister Nancy and her children in Ayrshire, Scotland. Jim was predeceased by his wife Wyldene, in 1991. Jim was educated at Dollar Academy in Scotland and graduated from The Banff School of Advanced Management. He joined his father’s firm William Stewart and Co., in Glasgow, Scotland in 1928, studying for and obtaining a degree as associate of The Institute of Chartered Ship brokers. He came to Vancouver in 1931, and joined the Vancouver Tug Boat Co. Ltd. where he worked on Tug Boats obtaining his masters certificate. He came ashore as a dispatcher, then a general manager in 1948. He became vice president in 1953 then president in 1959. When Vancouver Tug became Seaspan in 1970, he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer until his retirement. He was a member of the Vancouver Board of Trade, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Vancouver Merchants Exchange, B.C. Tow Boat Owners Association, B.C. Safety Council, Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, American Bureau of Shipping, Canada-Japan Trade Council, Company of Master Mariners of Canada and the Council of Marine Carriers. He belonged to Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club as well as the Vancouver Club. The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to Fely Detorio for the wonderful home care provided to Jim over the past 15 years, as well as many thanks to Linda and the splendid staff at Sunrise Assisted Living at 57th & Oak. There will be no funeral service as per his request. His remains will be scattered at Manson’s Deep during a private family service.
