LA COUVEE, Remy (Ray) November 10, 1927 - October 15, 2010 It is with much sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Ray La Couvee. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Joy, daughters, Nancy, Colleen (Bruce), Sherry (Morgan) and Darlene (Gene), son-in law, Colin, brother, Bernie (Carole); sisters, Anita (Mel), Rosemarie, Connie (Bill), and Patricia; grandchildren, Nolan, Erin, Lindsay, Lucas, Ty, Isaac, Kara, Chloe, Zackery, Quinn, and Jordan, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his dear son, Keith, beloved daughter, Linda; brothers, Germaine, Eric, Bob, Lemie, Karl, Riun, and Ivan, and parents Reginald and Maria. Remy Graydon Gilbert La Couvee was born in Gaspe, PQ and moved with his family to Vancouver in 1943. He was a mariner and was proud to have served with Canada’s Merchant Navy during WW II. After the war, he sailed all over the world as a Merchant Seaman and settled down with his wife, Joy, whom he married in 1957. They raised their family in Surrey, BC, during which Ray spent 35 years as a Marine Engineer with Seaspan International. He had a large extended family, with numerous friends, and fellow veterans, and his home was the centre of many family celebrations. Ray had the distinction of performing several ceremonial duties on behalf of the Merchant Navy. He was an active member of the Legion (Whalley Branch 229) and supported the Merchant Navy organization, serving as Treasurer of the BC and Yukon branch. He will be dearly missed. Prayer services at Valley View Chapel, 14644, 72nd Ave, Surrey, 7pm, October 22. Funeral to be held October 23 at 11am, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 10460, 139th St, Surrey. Interment to follow at Valley View, 14644, 72nd Ave, Surrey, followed by reception at the Legion, 13525, 106th Ave, Surrey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Whalley Legion Branch No. 229, Building Fund in honour of Ray La Couvee.
