Mick passed away sitting in his chair with a cold beer on a lovely sunny day. His passing was sudden, but not unexpected, from complications of kidney disease. Missing him now and always are his wife Cathy; children Jon (Katie), Anita, Michelle and Earl (Elliot); grandchildren Maris, Josey, Eliza, Jaime and Cameron. Mick had a life of adventure in Australia and BC, and on the oceans nearby and in between. A love of sailing brought him to a career in the maritime industry in BC for 15 years. The wanderlust took hold again and the family sailed to Australia for a stint in that country’s marine industry. After a brief stay in New Zealand, we returned to BC “where we belonged”. Hired by the BC Coast Pilots he finished his working life there in 1998. Mick took the term “retirement” very seriously, and at this point discovered the joys of a reclining chair and studying the inlet. We did a bit of travel but “where do we go that’s better than here”. Many thanks to Dr. Peter Meyer, Dr. Chris Jones, the Home Dialysis Unit, and the staff of 4S at RJH for superb care. Friends, family and shipmates are invited to a Celebration of Captain Mick’s life, to be held Monday, June 10th at 2:00 p.m., at McCall’s Funeral Chapel, 1400 Vancouver Street at Johnston, Victoria BC.
