De La MARE _ Charles Joseph “Joe”, Vancouver, B.C., passed away peacefully in his sleep with his daughter, Heather, by his side on July 26th, 2005, at the age of 82. He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Fred) Grauer and Heather Wright; grandchildren, Jared, David, Andrew, Kara Jo (Chris) and Matthew; brothers, Bill and Wilf; and sister, Lucy. He is predeceased by his wife, Willa; brother, Jim; and sister, Ruth. Joe left Manitoba as a teenager to forge a life in Vancouver. He began a career as a deckhand aboard one of Canadian Pacific’s ferry vessels and retired as captain of the MV Carrier Princess. He was passionate about life at sea and was past president of and awarded life membership with the Canadian Merchant Marine Service Guild. Joe was also a passionate member of the institution of Freemasonry and was granted the title of Master Mason in 2005. One of Joe’s last wishes was that money he set aside be used by the Masons of the Mount Herman Lodge #7, to host a reception with “sandwiches, tea, coffee and plenty of liquor to be served”. A survivor of cancer, Joe volunteered as a driver for the B.C. Cancer Society. Anyone in his company was privy to his humour, smile and affable personality. He will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 12th, 2005, at 2:00pm, at First Memorial Services Chapel, 602 Kingsway Street, Vancouver, B.C.
