Art passed away peacefully at the age of 88, surrounded by his loving family at Peace Arch Hospital. He was born in Duncan, BC to parents John Leslie and Elida Maude Burchett (Weeks). He was a WWII Veteran, having joined the Navy serving on board two corvettes as a Gunner. The sea would continue to be his calling in life, making his way to Tofino in 1948 where he fished and operated a tug and barge business, later earning his Master Mariner’s designation. He went on to become a senior executive at Rivtow Marine and then Northland Navigation in Vancouver, finishing his career with his own Marine Consulting Business. He spent over 40 years as a snowbird at his home in Yuma, Arizona. Survived by his loving children; Ronald Burchett, Sharon Smith (Harold), Beverly Dranchuk (Gordon), Carol Burchett (Ken), John Burchett (Jeanette), Coleen Craig (Herb), Heather Burchett; 8 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren. No service by request. A Private Family Memorial will take place at a later date with a scattering of his ashes at sea. If so desired, donations may be made to Peace Arch Hospital Foundation.
