JORGENSEN Captain Flemming Kristian “Aere vaere hans minde” (May honor his memories always) It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Jorgie on February 15, 2005 at his home in Sorrento, B.C. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Patricia, his children Serina (Daniel) and Kristian. Jorgie was born in Copenhagen on March 27, 1934, where he became part of the great Danish traditions. Traditions he kept until his passing. Initially, he trained as a butcher but at age 18 he left Denmark to pursue his dream of going to sea. Jorgie sailed deep sea aboard Mearsk, Bakke and other shipping lines. He immigrated to Canada from British Hong Kong in 1957, choosing Vancouver as his home. He began his career with Imperial Oil Ltd in 1959 aboard the M/V Imperial Vancouver and later the M/V Imperial Nanaimo. He went back to Navigational school to earn his mate’s and captain’s ticket. He retired from Imperial Oil in 1999 after spending his final years as Captain of the M/V Imperial Tofino and Imperial Skena. In his retirement, he was an active member of the local chapter of Toastmasters International, the local Coast Guard Auxiliary, became part of the Company of Master Mariners of Canada and as an avid model ship builder. Jorgie was a man of principle and integrity. He was a quiet, thoughtful man, with a quick wit and sense of humour. He loved to cook his traditional Danish dishes and there were many Danish Smorgasbords held in his home. He loved his family and his friends. There will be a family service only. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted to the Mission of Seafarers, 401 East Waterfront Road, Vancouver, BC, V6A 4G9 or Vancouver Maritime Museum.
